Privacy and Sharing Data

Registration
When you register to use our database you enter an email address, password and a gamertag.
Your email address
The email address is never shared with anyone. It is only there to make it harder for people to load the database with bogus made up info. The database sends a registration link to the email address and the pirate profile is only activated when they click that link.
Gamertag
The Gamertag can either be your official XBOX Gamertag or something made up if you want to be more private. I just needed "something" to show to the other pirates so it didn't look like "Pirate 456" and "Pirate 457" (LOL).
Content you create
Your pirate profile has all kinds of check boxes and fill in the blanks so you can let people know your levels in different trading companies / what system you play on / your timezone / etc.
You can also create multiple "Pirate Missions" that are attached to your Pirate Profile. This is where you can specify that you "Fish on Fridays on a Galleon" or "Do Reaper's on Sat/Sun Evenings".
Private Contact Info
There is a "private info" area for each pirate where they fill in their OFFICIAL XBOX Gamertag , their Discord username, etc. This information is not shown or searchable by any other user unless you friend them.
I did not want to build a chat or messaging system - that would take FOREVER. Instead here is what I've done. I basically built a "friend request" system. Users can search through all the Pirates and/or Pirate Missions. When they see something they like they can send a Friend Request to that Pirate. The system then sends an email to that pirate. It does not send ANY information except the name of the Pirate (his made up username), a short message they can type in, and what they were interested in... Friend Request OR a specific Pirate Mission.
The Friend/Mission Request pages show incoming and outgoing requests. If these incoming requests are approved then two things happen.
- An anonymous email is sent to the requester letting them know it was accepted.
- Each pirate can now see their new pirate friend (and that private contact info) on their "Pirate Friends" page.
From this point it is up to them to use the new contact info (discord, email, etc) to reach out to their New Pirate Friend and discuss when and how they will play together.
I also set up a Discord Server if needed (link on homepage) - though I'm no sure how I will use it. Right now it will be useful for the discussion of the application and any feature requests.
